What is your story?
HopeWords, a nonprofit organization born out of the transformative HopeWords Writers Conference, exists to tell redemptive stories by cultivating radically hospitable and generative events, places, and conversations.
The HopeWords Writers Conference, the cornerstone of the organization's inception, is purposefully situated in Bluefield, West Virginia. This conference has brought readers, writers, and thinkers from all over the country and world to “Renew. Refresh. Rewrite your story.” Once a thriving industrial center, Bluefield’s own story is one of boom and bust and of slowly rebuilding; the city embodies that kind of gritty hope that we all long for. Born out of this same gritty hope, HopeWords Writers Conference calls readers, writers, and thinkers to gather among the fog-topped mountains for a weekend of imagining the New Creation. Because of this, the conference is intentionally intimate and spare, believing renewal happens in quiet, steady ways. Renowned writers, speakers, and thinkers have led interactive discussions and thought-provoking sessions to ignite the imagination of attendees. The conference has been held annually during the spring season for creative expression, fostering connections among writers, and celebrating the potential within a place.
Recognizing the profound impact of the annual HopeWords Writers' Conference in Bluefield, West Virginia, the organization is dedicated to extending this flagship event with an open hand to other places across the country. Knowing the potential for impactful experiences is connected to the place in which the event is hosted, HopeWords aims to create radically hospitable and generative experiences across the country. Our intentionality in place, process, and presence is a unique offering of HopeWords. Wherever we work, the timing and specific locations of the expanded conferences will be carefully determined, considering the unique stories and cultural heritage of each place. HopeWords envisions a future that encompasses a diverse range of activities, including workshops, youth writing programs and scholarship, platforms for creative collaboration, and partnerships with local organizations to amplify the impact of their collective efforts.
